Movado Watches

Movado was founded in 1881 by Achille Ditesheim, who opened a small workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland at just 19 years old. Within two decades the company had grown substantially, and in 1905 the name was changed to “Movado,” meaning “always in motion” in Esperanto. The choice reflected the brand’s forward-looking design philosophy, which carried through to models that often bore Esperanto names. Over the years, Movado became recognized for sleek, modern styling and Swiss precision.
